Founder and Visionary

Meet Debra Abbey, the driving force and visionary founder behind HIVE x—an endeavor that has emerged after years of unwavering dedication and hard work. Deb, an independent sole owner and operator, embodies the essence of resilience, determination, and a passion for empowering individuals within the realm of neurodiversity.

Deb's personal journey is a testament to her unwavering commitment to making a difference. In 2012, she received a diagnosis of ADHD combined type—a revelation that ignited her fervor to understand, embrace, and champion the unique intricacies of neurodiversity. Despite the challenges that lay ahead, Deb's determination remained unshakeable.

Navigating the demanding role of a full-time 911 dispatcher, juggling multiple per diem jobs as an EMT-B, Deb's thirst for knowledge and personal growth remained insatiable. In 2017, she achieved a remarkable milestone, obtaining her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Sociology and Criminal Justice. Her pursuit of excellence continued as she pursued her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, which she triumphantly achieved in 2020, maintaining a pristine 4.0 GPA throughout both her BA and MA.

Deb's intellectual journey has transcended traditional boundaries, as she currently endeavors to obtain her Doctor of Philosophy in Forensic Psychology—a pursuit that reflects her unyielding dedication to expanding her understanding of the human mind. With a 4.0 GPA and an anticipated completion date of December 2024, Debra's academic achievements resonate with her commitment to excellence.

But Deb is more than just an academic achiever; she is a beacon of compassion and empathy. As a psychiatric clinician in the state of Connecticut, Deb has channeled her education, life experiences, and second career in mental health to serve individuals with unwavering dedication. Her diverse roles, ranging from crisis response, working as a coach for a national telehealth corporation, working with children, parents and in a school, along with her private practice, have granted her a profound perspective on the challenges faced by those navigating neurodiversity.

Deb's focus in research and training has been an exploration of neurodivergent traits—a passion that has guided her quest to unravel the intricacies of these unique aspects of human cognition and behavior. As a certified ADHD Clinical Services Provider, Deb's expertise is built on a solid foundation of knowledge, experience, and an unquenchable thirst for growth.

Deb dedicates time daily to furthering her education on the many beautiful differences those with neurodiverse traits experience. She has completed specialized training from experts in the ADHD field including Dr. Russell Barkley and Dr. David Nowell along with ADHD expert, leading educator/trainer in ADHD: Cindy Goldrich.

Deb considers her education and continued learning to be the most exciting part of her day. She has a habit every morning to enjoy studying the collective works focused on the most recent information on stress, disease, neurodiversity, adverse childhood experiences, and how this all relates to the human body as noted by mental health advocate Dr. Gabor Mate, trauma expert Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, relationship focused Dr. Lori Gottlieb, and bioengineering psychiatrist Dr. Karl Deisseroth and the innovative Internal Family Systems founder Dr. Richard Schwartz. Her spiritual nature is one of finding joyful energies and choosing love over fear, as taught by best selling spiritual healer, Gabrielle Bernstein.

Deb considers herself to be dedicated to a lifetime of learning, and feels inspired to reach a global population to help society better understand themselves, how life can twist and turn, and how to make the best of every moment, every opportunity.

HIVE x, the culmination of Deb's journey, is a manifestation of her dedication to empower others through understanding and education. Notably, HIVE x stands for "Helping Incongruent Variable Emotions," embodying the ethos of embracing multifaceted traits that define us. The bee theme that resonates throughout HIVE x is more than an aesthetic choice—it is a symbol deeply intertwined with Deb's identity. "Bee" has been associated with Debra as a symbol of prophecy and hard work—a representation of her indomitable spirit and tireless pursuit of knowledge. Her journey fuels her passion for empowering neurodivergent individuals, reaching a global level of providing information, and inspiring societal change on the outlook of these unique human advantages.
